Other activities including kayaking, rock climbing, Irish Gaelic classes, vegan cooking classes, and photography classes are offered for an additional cost.

Day 1: Dublin to Donegal

Meet in Dublin for lunch at the all-vegan restaurant Cornucopia, then drive together to Donegal Town. Visit Donegal Castle, then explore the lively town center or take a peaceful riverside stroll.

Accommodation: The Arches Country House (or similar)

Day 2: Slieve League & Fintra Beach

Our first full day of the tour begins with an E-bike ride to the Slieve League viewpoint and onwards to Fintra Beach. Explore a secret waterfall along the way. Hike along the Slieve League’s cliffside trail. Learn how to cook a local vegan dish, then head to the local pub for Irish Music Night.

Distances: E-Bike 8-22 mi (13-35 km), Hike 2-8 mi (3-13 km)

Accommodation: Carrick Gate Hotel (or similar)

Day 3: Glencolumbkille & The Silver Strand

Today’s destination is the Silver Strand, best reached by E-bike. After a swim, hike up to a stone watchtower from the Napoleonic War. That evening, pick up some useful Irish phrases during our Irish Gaelic class at the Glencolumbkille Folk Village.

Distances: E-Bike 21 mi (33 km), Hike 2-8 mi ( 3-14 km)

Accommodation: Carrick Gate Hotel (or similar)

Day 4: Glengesh & Maghera Strand

Our final day in Carrick features some of best hiking and cycling of the entire tour. A loop ride through Glengesh and Granny Pass offers up stunning views, as does a hike up to nearby Cnoc Onna. A leisurely afternoon at Maghera Strand sunbathing and exploring sea caves is the highlight of the day.

Distances: E-Bike 29 mi (47 km), Hike 2-6 mi ( 3-10 km)

Accommodation: Carrick Gate Hotel (or similar)

Day 5: Arranmore Island & Crohy Head

After breakfast we drive to Bunbeg, our hub for the next three days. Catching the ferry to Arranmore Island, we explore it either on foot or by E-bike before heading back to the mainland. We make our way to Crohy Head for a private rock climbing lesson, testing our skills on the salt-sprayed sea arches.

Distances: E-Bike 11-45 mi ( 18-72 km), Hike 1-11 mi ( 2-18 km)

Accommodation: Teac Campbell Guesthouse (or similar)

Day 6: Mount Errigal & Glentornan

We’ll have already seen Errigal’s rocky peak from a distance, but today’s ride brings us right to the base of it. Those who make it to the top are rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, lakes and coastal islands. Afterwards, a local Irish photographer will teach us the tricks of the trade as we explore the ruins of Glentornan Village and the Old Church of Dunlewey.

Distances: E-Bike 20-44 mi (32-70 km), Hike 3-13 mi ( 5-21 km)

Accommodation: Teac Campbell Guesthouse (or similar)

Day 7: Glenveagh National Park

Our final day of activities features a visit to one of Ireland’s seven national parks. An e-bike ride along the base of the Seven Sisters range ends at the castle, gardens and tea house at the heart of Glenveagh. Hiking opportunities along Lough Beagh and Lough Altan make for a stunning finish to an adventure-packed week.

Distances: E-Bike 30-80 mi (24-50 km), Hike 2-5 mi ( 3-8 km)

Accommodation: Teac Campbell Guesthouse (or similar)

Day 8: Return to Dublin

After one last breakfast together, we drive back to Dublin and go our separate ways. We encourage you add an extra day or two to your trip to explore the Irish capital on your own.

Accommodation

The accommodation we use on this tour is a mixture of traditional B&Bs and small hotels that cater to the needs of vegan travelers. Rooms are shared; single-traveler rooms are available for an additional fee. All rooms have access to a private bathroom.

We make every effort to choose locations as close as possible to the village or town center, so that we can more easily explore local communities.

Solo Travelers

Solo travelers make up a large share of Hiking Biking Vegan guests and are encouraged to join any and all of our vegan adventures. Our tour prices are based on double occupancy, due to the limited accommodation options in many of our destinations. You will be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender. Private rooms are often, though not always, available, for an additional fee.

Weather & Climate

Summers in County Donegal are mild. In July, daily temperatures rarely rise above 75°F (24°C), dropping to 55°F (13°C) in the evening.

While the weather in northwest Ireland is famously unpredictable, late July typically sees long stretches of warm and sunny days, with shorter periods of cooler temperatures, wind, and rain.

Physical Fitness

The main focus of this vegan bike tour is sight-seeing. It is meant to showcase the fascinating history, natural beauty and local hospitality of County Donegal, Ireland. The terrain is hilly but entirely suitable for e-bike riders and experienced cyclists. A support van will be available at all times, should any rider require assistance.

Casual cyclists are encouraged to ride e-bikes. Experienced cyclists riding standard bikes should find this tour sufficiently challenging. Riders looking for longer distances or steeper inclines will have the opportunity to choose a more active route on most days of the tour.

Arriving In Ireland

This vegan bike tour starts in Donegal Town. It is easily accessible from Dublin Airport, via regular direct buses. Many flights from North America to Ireland are overnight, arriving in Ireland in the early morning. Consider spending a “recovery day” in Dublin before traveling onwards to Donegal to join the tour.

If you are arriving in Ireland at a different location and would like advice on how to get here, let us know and we will help you to plan your journey.
