Tour Itinerary
Day 0: Arrive in Edinburgh
Welcome to Scotland!
We recommend arriving at least 1 day prior to the tour’s official start date in case of flight delays and cancellations. Arriving early also give you time to explore one of the most vegan-friendly cities in the UK. Walk the Royal Mile and watch a musical at the Edinburgh Playhouse, getting your fill of city-living before we head off to Scotland’s remote highlands and islands.
-
All aboard!
Our vegan tour of the Isle of Skye begins at 8:00am at the Edinburgh Waverley train station. It’s a 5-6 hour journey to Skye, and we will take our time, enjoying the sights along the way.
First, we board an electric passenger bus bound for Fort William. From Fort William, we ride the Hogwarts Express (Jacobite Steam Train) onwards to Mallaig. After a filling lunch, we’ll travel by ferry, arriving on the Isle of Skye with enough time to drop off our luggage and go on our first group adventure: a hike to the famous Fairy Pools.
A cozy B&B near Portnee will be our home base for the next 4 nights.

E-Bike Tour of the Trotternish Peninsula
Our ride today follows one of the most scenic cycling routes in the UK. With constant views of the ocean on our lefthand side, we follow quiet rural roads around the base of the imposing Trotternish Ridge. World-class mountain biker and Skye native Danny MacAskill is known to ride the ridge’s intimidating single track; lucky for us, you don’t have to be a professional athlete to enjoy these views.
Hiking Tour of the Skye Trail
The Skye Trail is a unofficial long-distance hiking route that stretches 80 mile (127 km) from Rubha Hunish in the north to the town of Broadford further south. Today’s route follows a breathtaking coastal section that is often overlooked by hikers headed to the more famous Quiraing or Storr (don’t worry, we’ll hike those later in the week).

Known for its dramatic rock formations and panoramic views, the beauty of the Quiraing has attracted artists and poets since Victorian times. An out-and-back route takes hikers into the heart of the Quiraing on a beginner-friendly path. A longer loop takes you scrambling up to dramatic rock spires and massive boulders.
Spend the morning or the whole day among the Quiraing’s otherworldly landscapes.

Easygoing Itinerary

Welcome to Scotland!
Our tour begins at 9:00AM at Edinburgh Waverley train station. There, you will meet your guide and travel as a group to Fort William, gateway to the Scottish Highlands. While en route, we’ll get to know each other and take a few moments to discuss the week ahead. You’ll receive an in-depth trip itinerary, as well as maps of the region for you to peruse.
We arrive in time for lunch at a local vegan-friendly restaurant—vegan haggis makes for an excellent appetizer! Afterwards we’ll pick up our bikes, get them fitted, and take them out on a test ride to a café along the waterfront. You’re on your own for the rest of the afternoon. Take a rest back at the hotel or go exploring. Regroup back at the hotel in time for dinner.
-
Glen Coe is a picturesque valley located just outside Fort William, at the northern terminus of the West Highland Way. Along with nearby Glen Nevis, Glen Coe offers incredible hiking opportunities to waterfalls and panoramic views.
The Great Glen Way follows a natural rift that cuts across the heart of the Scottish Highlands, stretching 79 miles (127 km) from Fort William to Inverness. This national walking and cycling trail passes by many points of interest, including Loch Ness.
Activities and destinations to look forward to:
Hike to Steall Waterfall in the shadow of Ben Nevis
Ride on cycle paths and quiet country roads, surrounded by the beauty of the Scottish Highlands
Sea kayak to white sand beaches, remote islands and the ruins of Castle Tioram
Paddle board through narrow gorges and explore a remains of historic shipwreck
Take the Hogwarts Express (Jacobite Steam Train) to Malliag, enjoying the views from the Glenfinnan Viaduct
Observe local wildlife and learn the history of Fort William on a boat tour of Loch Linnhe
Dine at the Wild Cat Café, Fort William’s first 100% vegan restaurant
-
Scotland’s largest island is famous for its rugged natural beauty. Parking lots at the trailheads to famous sites like the Fairy Pools or Old Man of Storr are full during peak season. Travel just a little bit further up the road, however, and the crowds melt away, leaving you with pristine beaches and countless waterfalls all to yourself. We’ll spend three days exploring the island’s better-known attractions and its hidden gems, both on foot and on two wheels.
Activities and destinations to look forward to:
Pedal your way around the island along quiet country roads; there really is no better way to see the island than from the seat of a bicycle
Leave the pavement behind and take a beginner-friendly MTB tour with expert local guides
Hike along in the Cuillin range and on the Trotternish peninsula, exploring the unique rock formations of the Quiraing.
Visit historic sites like Dunvegan Castle and Neist Point Lighthouse
Take a stroll along the secluded beaches of Camas Daraich and Camasunary Bay
Join a yoga class and soak in a Scandinavian sauna in Portree
Join a boat tour to nearby islands to see puffins, seals, eagles, and whales
Take a tour of the Talisker distillery (sample Scotch whisky, all vegan!)
Immerse yourself in Scottish Gaelic at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the school leading the Scottish Gaelic revival
-
Our week of exploring Scotland’s highlands and islands comes to an end too soon! We return to Edinburgh, sharing one last meal together before returning to Edinburgh Waverley station, where our tour began. Safe travels, and thanks for all the memories!
Stay in touch! We hope to see you on a future Hiking Biking Vegan tour.

Endless fortresses and castle ruins such as Castelo de Paderne, one of the 7 castles featured on Portugal’s flag
Faro Old Town, where you can wander the cobbled streets and sip espresso on the ramparts of the city’s old defensive walls
More pristine beaches than you can count, including Carvoeiro Beach, where you could spend hours exploring its many sea caves
-
For the final 4 nights of our tour, we will be based out of the same 3-star hotel in Lagos, a beach resort town perfectly situated for exploring the surrounding area.
Activities and destinations to look forward to:
Hiking along the Rota Vicentina,
Easy riding along the coast to countless beaches and to the historic old towns of Portimao,
Surfing the perfect waves and rope climbing up the towering sea cliffs of Sagres
Snorkeling and coasteering at Ponta da Piedade, home to some of the Algarve’s most unique marine life
Soaking in the mineral-rich waters of the Monchique thermal baths, natural springs first developed by the Romans
Learning to prepare authentic Portuguese plant-based dishes at our vegan cooking class
-
Our week of exploring the Algarve comes to an end too soon!
We return to Lisbon via private shuttle, sharing one last meal together before returning to Lisbon Oriente Station, where our tour began.
Safe travels, and thanks for all the memories!

Welcome to Portugal!
Our tour begins at 9:00AM at Lisbon Oriente train station, near the Lisbon International Airport. There, you will meet your guide and travel as a group to Albufeira, whose white-plaster buildings tower dramatically over pristine beaches.
During our 3 hour train ride, we’ll get to know each other and take a few moments to discuss the week ahead. You’ll receive an in-depth itinerary, as well as paper maps of the region for you to peruse.
We arrive in time for lunch at a local vegan restaurant—I recommend the vegan pastéis de nata, a classic Portuguese pastry. Afterwards, we’ll head to the bike shop for a bike fitting before taking them out on a test ride to a café along the waterfront.
The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore the Old Town, before regrouping for dinner.
