Hiking Biking Vegan is an active vegan travel company dedicated to providing one-of-a-kind experiences for vegan travelers (and the veg-curious). We take you to destinations far and wide—if we think it’s worth exploring, we’ll plan a vegan tour to take you there. We travel to world-renowned destinations like the west coast of Ireland, and to lesser-known ones like Taroko Gorge National Park in Taiwan. We’re adding new vegan vacations in new places every year—taking you to Europe, Asia, Latin America and beyond. We’re also pushing the boundaries of what an active vegan tour can offer. Kayaking and paddle boarding, snorkeling and surfing, rock climbing and whitewater rafting… you name it! We’re determined to offer you the very best outdoor adventures available.
Small group vegan travel
Imagine this: Walking through a remote village or cycling along a scenic coastline, eating at vegan restaurants along the way. Or exploring the world’s wildest places, hundreds of miles from a vegan menu, with a personal vegan chef to prepare your meals. If you’re a vegan traveling on your own, this kind of experience sounds outlandish, if not down-right ridiculous. The price tag of such an adventure is enough to give most of us pause, let alone the logistical nightmare of finding meals, renting equipment and transporting luggage—all the while communicating in a foreign language.
That’s why small group vegan travel is so powerful—it allows us to share the costs and burdens of travel, making our trips cheaper, easier and more memorable. Traveling together, sharing our experiences with those who share our vegan values, we are free to explore at our own pace, in our own way. On any Hiking Biking Vegan tour, you will experience the life-changing moment that is waking up in a beautiful place, hopping on your bike or hitting the trail, without once having to worry about what you’ll eat, where you’ll go or what you’ll do once you get there.
Meet your vegan guide
Fielding Russell has been a world-traveler since he was six months old. Born in Japan to American educators, his first visit to a “foreign” country was to the United States. He spent his childhood criss-crossing the Pacific Ocean, living in both countries. At 17, he hiked the Inca Trail in Peru as a sighted-guide for blind students, on a trip led by author and adventurer Erik Weihenmayer. His first job after university was as a backpacking guide in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. In 2017, he moved to Taiwan to teach, and discovered the joys of long-distance cycling. It was in Taiwan that Fielding met the people who would inspire him to become vegetarian, and later, vegan.
Fielding founded Hiking Biking Vegan in 2023, after growing increasingly frustrated with how difficult it was to find vegan options while bike touring and backpacking. He decided to take matters into his own hands—to combine his vegan values with his passion for active travel and outdoor recreation. Since leading his first vegan tour to Ireland in 2024, Fielding has partnered with local guides & vegan businesses in over 20 countries to ensure that Hiking Biking Vegan continues to offer plant-based, cruelty-free active adventures for years to come.

Easygoing Multi-Adventures

Beginner-friendly: Perfect for first-time active travelers and anyone who enjoys a more relaxed style of travel. Hike to panoramic views, e-bike through picturesque landscapes, and discover the rhythms of everyday life in the communities we visit.
Active mornings, relaxing afternoons: We love staying active and spending time in nature. We also enjoy lounging on the beach with a good book, sipping fresh-brewed tea, and relaxing back at the hotel. Our easygoing tours are designed to provide ample time for rest, relaxation, and self-discovery.
Local guides, local perspectives: Having a professional guide with us while we hike and bike means we never have to worry about taking a wrong turn or forgetting to pack water and sunscreen. Our guides don’t just keep us safe—they translate for us, introduce us to their communities, and help us to better appreciate local customs & traditions.
Typical weekly itinerary: 4–5 cycling days, 2–3 hiking days, 1 rest day
Daily distances: Hike 3–7 miles (5–10km) / Bike 20–30 miles (30–50km)

Ride through scenic landscapes along world-class cycling routes.
Go faster, go further: Perfect for experienced cyclists looking to put in the miles and explore the wild and wonderful places of the world. Ride along scenic coastlines and up challenging switchbacks, discovering something new at every turn. Road, gravel & MTB.
Exhilarating itineraries: We know you didn’t travel halfway around the world just to work out! Our vegan tours take you to mountain-top Buddha statues and lighthouses perched on towering cliffs, to wild hot springs and cathedrals built beneath waterfalls. Each day brings new and exciting adventures.
Guides & support: With HBV, you’ll always have an expert guide at your side, and a support vehicle at the ready. Travel light, knowing that we’ll have food and water ready for you at check points along your route. We keep you safe so you can keep exploring.
Typical weekly itinerary: 5–6 cycling days, 1–2 hiking days, 1 rest day
Daily distances: Hike 3–7 miles (5–10 km) / Bike 40–60 miles (65–100 km)

Active Hiking Tours
Explore coastal walks, alpine trails, and national parks around the world.
Pilgrimage Routes: Follow in the footsteps of ancient pilgrims, journeying through scenic landscapes and visiting holy sites along the way. HBV offers inn-to-inn vegan hiking adventures along historic routes like the Camino de Santiago and the Kumano Kodo.
National Parks: Despite being incredibly popular travel destinations, US national parks often offer limited options for vegan hikers. HBV teams up with vegan chefs to provide 8-day hiking tours of national parks both in the US and around the world.
Guides & support: Whether you’re walking the coastal path of the Camino Português or summiting peaks from a hot spring hotel in Japan’s Aso-Kuju National Park, our experienced guides will be by your side to encourage you and keep you safe.
Typical weekly itinerary: 5–7 hiking days, 1–2 alternate activity days, 1 rest day
Daily distances: Hike 8–19 miles (13–31 km) per day
